The contractors are continuing the work with low quality materials without any hesitation even though the work has been stopped several times due to irregularities. Locals say that the contractors are committing such irregularities due to lack of proper supervision by the concerned authorities.
According to the Santhia Local Government Engineers Department, under the Rural Road Repair and Maintenance Project under the Department of Local Government Engineers in the fiscal year 2021-2022 at a cost of about Tk 8 crores. Messrs Harun Enterprise, Pakshi Ishwardi, Dhali Construction Dhaka and Messrs Delwar Traders Chakchhatiani were given the responsibility. There is no way to understand the quality of the road construction as most of the work is going while people are not around. However, the locals obstructed the work in the middle of the road in the same way. At that time, Executive Engineer Anisur Rahman went to inspect the work of the road. After the locals complained, he instructed the upazila engineer Fazlur Rahman and his assistant Idris to remove the substandard cobblestones. He said that now there is a question about thickness in carpeting. "The contractor tried a lot to bribe me but couldn't," he said.
It was seen on the road that most of the roads were made of low quality bricks. In some places it has been covered with quick roller and covered with sand with light water. As soon as the sand was removed from the vehicles, the quality of the cobblestones on the road was noticed. Executive Engineer Anisur Rahman instructed to remove it immediately if the contractor obstructs Elabasi due to the loss of the main road. He told reporters at the time, no irregularities in the construction of the road will be accepted.
When the manager in charge of the road was asked about this, he could not give any answer. It has been alleged that the bricks that were removed by the locals have been reused on the same road without returning the bricks. However, the locals are reluctant to accept any irregularities in the road under construction.
