State Minister for Information Yaser Khan Chowdhury on Thursday said country’s IP TV platforms and online news portals would be brought under a proper policy framework.
“After taking charge, I have understood how the ministry has been run for the past 17 years. It was operated with irregularities and corruption. Rules and regulations were not properly followed,” he told journalists after visiting the Press Club in Mymensingh’s Nandail in the afternoon.
The State Minister said those running online portals using just a mobile phone must operate in compliance with government policies.
The government does not intend to restrict media freedom as independent media are essential for democratic development, he said.
Addressing journalists there, he assured support from the Training and Welfare Fund to help improve professional standards in line with policy guidelines.
