Involvement of private sector stakeholders in policy formulation process stressed

Business leaders at a workshop opined that  it is very important to involve the private sector stakeholders and experts in the process of formulating any policy. 

Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) organised the training workshop on “Practical Aspects of Customs and VAT Related Laws and Regulations” at the BCI Boardroom.

Abdul Hai Sarkar, Chairman, Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB), was present as the chief guest at the workshop with Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury (Pervez), President of BCI, in the chair. 

Tarek Hasan, First Secretary, Customs, NBR and Barrister Md. Badruzzaman Munshi, Second Secretary, VAT Policy, NBR were present as facilitators.

30 representatives from various institutions and sectors participated in the workshop while BCI Director Dr. Delwar Hossain Raja was present at the workshop. 

In his speech as the chief guest, Abdul Hai Sarkar, Chairman, BAB, said that there is a kind of distance between our tax payers and those who collect taxes. If this distance can be reduced, problems in tax collection and management will be reduced.

He expressed the opinion that it is very important to involve the private sector while formulating any policy. 

In the second part of the workshop Tarek Hasan, First Secretary, Customs, NBR and Barrister Md. Badruzzaman Munshi, Second Secretary, VAT Policy, NBR discussed various aspects of laws and regulations related to Customs and VAT and answered various questions from the participants.
