‘Investment potential in SME sector bright’

Flanders Investment and Trade First Secretary of Belgium Embassy in Delhi Babette Desfossez met the leaders of The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Chamber office at the World Trade Center on Wednesday for an exchange of views aimed at strengthening bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

  Anjan Shekhar Das, SM Tahsin Jonaid, Mohammad Adnanul Islam, Tanveer Mostafa Chowdhury and Chamber Secretary Incharge Engineer Mohammad Faruq were present in the exchange meeting.

 During the exchange of views, Chamber Director Anjan Shekhar Das requested to make visas easier for Bangladeshi students in Belgium, according to Babette Desfossez, First Secretary of the Belgium Embassy, there will be no difficulty in obtaining visas if the student visa aspirants have proficiency in English and other qualifications.

 She said that a Belgium business delegation will visit Bangladesh in March to improve commercial relations between the two countries.  Bangladesh has a lot of investment opportunities in the SME sector.  Investors will be more encouraged if the steps to invest in Bangladesh are reduced and simplified.

 First Secretary of the Embassy of Belgium Mrs.  Babette Desfossez said, there are opportunities to work with Belgium on heavy industry deployment, education and research, development cooperation, climate related issues.  For this reason, he called for the opening of the embassy of Belgium in Bangladesh.

 After the visit of the Belgium business delegation to Bangladesh, the leaders of the Chamber expressed interest in a business delegation from Bangladesh to visit Belgium.

  A documentary on Chittagong's economy and investment potential in Bangladesh was presented by Chittagong Chamber's Initiative Bangladesh Center of Excellence.

 Chamber Secretary Engineer Mohammad Faruq concluded the meeting by thanking the First Secretary of the Embassy of Belgium on behalf of the Chittagong Chamber.
