Investment in hi-tech parks up despite pandemic

Investment in the country's high-tech parks has increased despite the Coronavirus pandemic. 

Many foreign companies have invested big amount while huge investment proposal keep continuously coming to these high-tech parks. 

According to high-tech parks information, even after the construction of seven high-tech parks in the country, the response from investors was not as expected till last year. So far, Tk 327 crore has been invested in the private sector.

However, in the current financial year, investment proposals both from local and foreign companies have started coming. 

As the demand for information technology increases during the epidemic, traders are becoming interested in investing in high-tech parks. 

ANM Shofiqul Islam, project director of Bangladesh High Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) said, "Despite the prevailing pandemic situation, our high tech parks construction work is continuing. The investment flow that we are having is quite satisfactory. Investment proposal would have even bigger if there was no Covid-19 stagnant situation ". 

According to BHTPA information, a Chinese company called Orxy Biotech has recently started working in Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City with an investment of Tk 2,550 crore. During the pendamic period, various organisations have proposed to invest Tk 661 crore in this project.

BHTPA managing director Hosne Ara Begum told media, "Everyday we are having new investment proposals from different companies. They are showing much interest for Bangabandhu High Tech Park. Investment proposals are also coming for other six high tech parks".

Moreover, about 7,000 people have been employed in the high-tech park during the pandemic, officials said. They also think that investment has started to come due to visible development in high-tech parks and increased demand for technology in coronavirus situation.

 According to Bangladesh Hi Tech Park Authority (BHTPA), at present 39 high-tech parks are being constructed in different parts of the country.

 In these 39 hi tech parks, innovators and start-ups will get special privileges like free-of-cost space and others, where labs, incubation centres and other programmes will also be conducted. 

 The government hopes to export US$ 1 trillion worth of software from these high-tech parks and software technology parks by 2030.
