International Women’s Day celebrated at CU

International Women's Day-2023 was celebrated by Chittagong University in a colorful arrangement.

 On this occasion, a colourful rally was held from CU Shahid Minar square under the leadership of Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Shireen Akhtar on Wednesday morning.  Rally CU Bangabandhu Square with balloons, festoons and doves symbol of peace, cake cutting.

  Discussion session on 'Digital technology and innovation, will eliminate gender discrimination'.  Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Shireen Akhtar and CU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Benu Kumar Dey were present as the chief guest in the discussion meeting.  Chittagong Premier University Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Kazi Shamim Sultana, Asian University for Women Director of Admissions Rehana Alam Khan, Chittagong Medical College former Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Professor Dr. Sahanara Chowdhury and Bangladesh Supreme Court advocate Shamima Ferdous Mili spoke as resource persons in the discussion meeting.

 CU Gene Engineering and Biotechnology Department President Professor Dr Nazneen Nahar Islam gave a welcome speech on behalf of the program organizing committee and Laylun Nahar, Associate Professor of CU Psychology Department, conducted the program.  Besides, CU Bangla Department Associate Professor Dr Sharmin Mustari, CU Microbiology Department President Professor Dr Sharmin Sultana, CU Biochemistry and Microbiology Department Associate Professor Dr Sonam Akhtar and CU Marketing Department Assistant Professor Tanya Karim read biographies of resource persons in the event.  Music was performed by students of the Department of Music and poetry was recited by Taslima Akhtar, associate professor of CU Institute of Fine Arts.

CU VC said that the changing world is rapidly advancing in the development of digital technology.  Along with men in this field, women are also making unprecedented contributions in all fields.  If the country is to be self-reliant and keep pace with the modern world, everyone must play a role in eradicating gender inequality.

 She said that information technology is very important in free flow of information.  The free flow of information due to the development of digital technology has played an important role in making people aware.  As a result, people of all levels of the country, especially women, have been able to become more aware. 

Women are now more aware than before about the establishment of women's rights in a male-dominated society, removal of gender discrimination in society, equal rights in the workplace, freedom of opinion, leadership etc.  Proper and proper use of digital technology must be ensured to mainstream the backward women population
