International Disaster Mitigation Day was celebrated in Jamalpur with colorful arrangements under the theme 'Early warning of disaster, action for all'.
On this occasion, processions, discussion meetings, distribution of awards, drills on fire fighting and earthquake protection were held. Deputy Commissioner Sravasti Roy was present as the chief guest on the occasion.
The meeting held at Hazrat Shahjamal (RA) High School was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Government Abdullah Al Mamun. Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Lawrence Litus Chiran, Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense Masud Sardar, Director of Human Resource Development of Development Association Jahangir Salim, District Press Club President Fazle Elahi Makam, Principal of Hazrat Shahjamal (R) High School Md. Asaduzzaman, BRAC spoke among others.
District Coordinator Monir Hossain Khan, Ward 1 Councilor of Jamalpur Municipality Sariful Islam Shimul etc. District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md. Alamgir Hossain moderated the program.
On the occasion of International Disaster Mitigation Day, prizes were distributed among the winners of the writing and painting competition held on October 11 under the initiative of Jamalpur Area Program implemented by Development Association and World Vision.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Alamgir Hossain said that government, private institutions, Red Crescent and Hazrat Shahjamal (R) High School teachers and students played an active role in making the whole program successful.
