The International Day of Peace-2023 was celebrated in Dhaka as elsewhere across the world on Thursday (September 21) amid colorful arrangements.
This year, the day was observed with the theme ‘Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals’ with the aim to establish united peace.
JMI Group, one of the leading companies in the pharmaceutical and medical equipment manufacturing sector in Bangladesh, celebrated the International Day of Peace-2023 like every year.
On the occasion, the JMI Group organised a discussion and brought colourful procession in the capital city.
Founder and Managing Director of JMI Group Md. Abdur Razzaq inaugurated the International Day of Peace programme by releasing balloons and white pigeons in front of Curzon Hall of Dhaka University on Thursday morning. The procession started from there and ended in front of the Nation Press Club.
Later, the JMI Group organised a discussion at the National Press Club in the city.
Speakers of the discussion highlighted the importance of celebrating the International Day of Peace. They called upon everyone to come forward to build a world of equality and harmony.
In his speech as the chief guest, Md. Abdur Razzaq said, “JMI Group has been celebrating the International Day of Peace in Bangladesh for more than a decade. We unite every year with the goal of upholding the basic rights of peace and security by standing by the side of the oppressed with a liberal mindset.”
He also said, “Since the JMI Group is a family of eight and a half thousand manpower, we can establish peace at least among ourselves. I myself want peace and harmony even for a day. We want this one-day practice to become a practice for every day and 365 days in a phased manner so that world peace can be fully established.”
Chairman of JMI Group Md. Jabed Iqbal Pathan presided over the discussion, while former Director General of Directorate General of Drug Administration Major General (retd) Mostafizur Rahman, Associate Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies Department of Dhaka University Dr. Md. Touhidul Islam, and Rakhi Sheikh of Shopnojoyee Foundation spoke at the discussion as special guests.
Director of NIPRO JMI Pharma Limited Mostafizur Rahman Patwari delivered the welcome speech, while Deputy General Manager of Administration Department of JMI Group Abdullah Al Faruki moderated the event. NIPRO Corporation of Japan Designated Director at JMI Syringes and Medical Devices Ltd Hiroshi Saito, Chief Executive Officer of JMI Builders and Constructions Ltd Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Chief Financial Officer of JMI Group Md. Zahangir Alam, and Abhijit Paul, Executive Director, JMI Syringes and Medical Devices Limited, were also present at the event.
In his presidential speech, Md. Jabed Iqbal Pathan said, “Every member of the JMI family is determined to uphold the theme of the International Day of Peace declared by the United Nations. The Managing Director of JMI Group has set up a foundation in his village. From this foundation, pregnant women are supported in ensuring nutrition. In this way, if we all stand by each other from our respective positions, a balanced society will be formed. Peace will be established at all levels.”
With the aim of establishing a war-free world, it was decided to recognize the first day of the session of the United Nations General Assembly as the ‘International Day of Peace’ since 1981. The day is celebrated on September 21 every year.
Although this day is celebrated on the ‘third Tuesday' of September every year according to the resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, since 2002 it has been set on September 21 as 'World Peace Day' every year with great importance around the world.
