On October 20, 2022 credit union members around the world will celebrate International Credit Union Day, an annual event to commemorate the credit union movement’s history and achievements. This year,74 years of International Credit Union Day. Credit Unions are truly building financial health for a brighter tomorrow. In honor of this special day, more than seven hundred fifty thousand individual members of 1,138 member credit unions of The Co-operative Credit Union League of Bangladesh Ltd. (CCULB) will celebrate all over the country.Credit Unions are financial cooperatives that provide an effective and viable alternative to for-profit financial institutions for more than 291 million members in 118 countries worldwide. More than 86,000 credit unions exist globally, providing a plethora of financial services for their members, recognized as a force for positive economic and social change.
The Co-operative Credit Union League of Bangladesh Ltd. is an apex organization of the Co-operative Credit Unions in Bangladesh. It helps the Credit Union movement to expand throughout Bangladesh to building financial health for a better tomorrow. As of June 30, 2021 total 1,138 primary Co-operative Credit Unions are affiliated with the CCULB with individual membership 750,000 and accumulated asset of BDT 4,424 crors.
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to challenge the financial well-being of credit union members around the globe.
Since 1948, International Credit Union day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday on October. Each year. the international event affords the opportunity to remember credit unions’ proud history and promote awareness of and support for the credit union difference. International Credit Union Day is recognized by World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), the international trade association and development agency for credit unions worldwide, and Credit Union National Association (CUNA), the premier trade association for credit unions in the United States.
On October 21, 2021 credit unions from around the world will be celebrating the day with membership drives, contests and fundraisers to help their local communities. At the same time, in Bangladesh member credit unions of CCULB, cluster committees as well as the Cooperative Credit Union League of Bangladesh Ltd. (CCULB) will celebrate the day through discussion meetings, seminars, feasts, fairs, rally, publications, honoring CU pioneers in memory of the international credit union day 2021.
