The inter-university handball and volleyball competitions for both male and female students began at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Saturday around 11:00am.
Marking the day, IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Shaikh Abdus Salam, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Mahbubur Rahman, Treasurer Professor Dr Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan, Registrar HM Ali Hasan and Physical Education Division director Dr M Sohel hoisted the national flag, university flag, University Parishad flag, International University Sports Federation flag and Olympic flag in the football playground on the campus respectively,
Later, IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Shaikh Abdus Salam inaugurated the event as a chief guest at the same place by releasing pigeons and balloons in the sky around 11:30am.
A total of 16 public universities including Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Jagannath University and National university will be taking part in the competition.
A short discussion programme and cultural events were held there where IU VC was present as the chief guest while treasurer attended as the special guest with inter-university handball-volleyball Competition Committee convener IU Pro-VC in the chair.
IU Physical Education Division director Dr M Sohel delivered a welcome speech while IU Political Science Department Head Assistant Professor Sherina Bithi and Physical Education department Assistant director Mabila Rahman conducted the programme.
Among others, Student Advisor Professor Dr Shelina Nasrin, TSCC director Professor Dr Ruhul KM Saleh, teachers and students of different faculties were also present on the occasion.
After, a colorful cultural show was also delivered by the students of the university and others.
