Integration of new students into BracU begins

The “First Year Advising Team (FYAT) Day” for integrating freshmen of Fall 2019 into Brac University (BracU) was organised by the Office of Academic Advising (OAA) under The Office of Student Affairs on its Mohakhali campus on Thursday.

With the auditorium decorated showcasing the beauty of fall students were introduced to key departments, Residential Semester and policies amidst music, dance and warm wishes.

Addressing the event, Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed, associate vice president (VP) for student life and Director of the Brac Institute of Languages (BIL), informed that the FYAT was a new concept in Bangladesh.

“BracU is the only university in Bangladesh working with newcomers to foster their transition in education life from high school to tertiary level education”, she said.

Under the FYAT program, freshmen are put into groups headed by student mentors providing support to cope up with academic and nonacademic challenges. Moreover, groups of student mentors are supervised by a faculty adviser.

BIL Lecturer and Faculty Adviser Farina Haque, Psychosocial Counsellor of BracU Counselling Unit Tanzila Huq and Assistant Manager Md Abu Zafar Tonmoy of Relationship Management Office also spoke at the event.

Assistant Professor Dilara Afroz Khan, director of the OAA, moderated the event.
