Int’l Webinar on ‘Natural Products Chemistry’ held at DU

An International Seminar on ‘Natural Products Chemistry’ was held virtually on Friday (January 29) under the auspices of International Science Programme (ISP) of Uppsala University, Sweden-supported Research Group BAN: 04 at the Department of Chemistry of Dhaka University (DU) stated a press release issued by DU on Saturday.

DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Muhammed Samad inaugurated the seminar as the chief guest. Presided over by BAN:04 Group Leader Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shoeb the inaugural session was addressed by Dean of the Faculty of Sciences Prof. Dr. Tofail Ahmad Chowdhury and former Chairperson of DU Chemistry Department Prof. Dr. Nilufar Nahar. 

Prof. Sharifur Rahman of DU Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Dr. Nanik Siti Aminah of Department of Chemistry, University of Airlaanga, Indonesia delivered the Keynote Speech on the subject.

DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Muhammed Samad said, Natural Products Chemistry is playing an important role for primary health care and people of the Indian subcontinents are utilizing natural products as healing method from ancient time. 

DU received research grants on the occasion of DU Birth Centenary Programme from the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and this grants must be utilised properly, he added. 

He also highlighted that such kind of online seminar would help researchers to share their knowledge among eminent scientists from overseas countries. 

Prof. Shoeb in his welcome speech said that virtual seminar is very important in the current pandemic situation and BAN:04 provides the platform for post-graduate students and junior staffs to have exposure to expert presentations that encourage thinking about outstanding research. 

More than 130 professors, researchers and students from Algeria, Azerbaijan, Australia, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Egypt, India, Iran, Indonesia, Turkey and UK joined the webinar and took part in the discussion.
