Bangladesh Breast Cancer Conference 2022 was held for the fourth time to increase the survival rate of affected patients by ensuring this international quality service.

International Oncologist Dr. John S. Dichon as the chief guest inaugurated the conference organised by Bangladesh Society for Breast Cancer Study (BSBCS) the conference held at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon in the capital on Friday.

Prof. Dr. Md. Robed Amin, Line Director of Non-Communicable Disease Control Program of the Department of Health was present as a special guest.

Every year more than 13000 breast cancer patients are diagnosed in the country and about 6000 patients die. Due to lack of awareness the patient undergoes a relatively delayed diagnosis process and consequently most of the time the patient is diagnosed at a critical stage.

Because of this, the health of the breast cancer patient becomes uncertain. In developing and middle-income countries, the survival rate of breast cancer patients is below 40 percent, while in developed countries this rate is more than 80 percent.

To ensure international quality care for breast cancer patients in the country, it is essential to spread the knowledge of specialist doctors, diagnostic services and make all necessary equipment available.

About four hundred participants from the country and abroad took part. Eminent experts present papers and exchange views on various topics.

US cancer researcher and medical professor Dr. Don S. Dinjon discusses triple negative breast cancer and its modern treatment. "Triple negative breast cancer is a devastating subtype of breast cancer because it is usually diagnosed in young women and these patients tend to deteriorate very quickly. Until several years ago, there was no targeted therapy to treat this type of breast cancer," he said.

But the hope is that several immunotherapies and targeted therapies have been developed that are very effective in treating triple-negative breast cancer." Prof. Dr. Elfashi Taghian discussed “Lymph Edema, a complication after breast cancer treatment”.

Prof. Dr. Tabassum Wadasadawala discussed the 'First Forward Trial' of Radiotherapy. Other experts also discuss modern breast cancer treatment methods.
