Int’l film fest in Bandarban

The International Youth Film Festival or Global Youth Film Festival Bangladesh is going to be held in the hilly town of Bandarban.

It is organized by Joy Bangla Youth Award winning country's only film parliament - Cinema Bangladesh. It is learned that the festival will run from 26 to 28 December. The gathering of young filmmakers of the world will be held in the auditorium of the Cultural Institute of the city's small ethnic group.

According to the festival authorities, this is their fourth event after Lakshmipur, Rangpur and Mymensingh. It will be inaugurated by Ramendra Majumder, Chief Adviser of Cinema Bangladesh.

75 films from home and abroad will be screened at the festival. About 1,400 films made by young people from 101 countries have been submitted to its international competition section. Out of these, the names of the best seven award-winning films will be announced on the closing day of December 28.

Also a film making workshop will be held as part of the festival. As well as a few important films of recent times will be screened in the Invited Film section. It will screen Morshedul Islam's liberation war based film My Friend Rashed, Gias Uddin Selim's Swapnajal and recently National Film Award winning director Tanim Rahman Anshur's ‘No Dorai’. At the end of these, the concerned directors and crew will exchange views with the audience.

Festival producer Hemant Sadiq said, “Global Youth Film Festival Bangladesh has launched an award in the name of Hiralal Sen, the pioneer of film in the Indian subcontinent, from the second edition of the festival. So, this time more than a hundred films of Bangladeshi youth have been submitted to the concerned department.

Festival director Jisan Mahadi said no foreign producer was being physically invited to the festival due to the current corona situation. However, they will be connected via video conferencing from around the world. Spectator seating will be arranged following the state guidelines given for cinema halls. The whole event will be held in compliance with the hygiene rules. And the festival is open to all.
