On the occasion of International Family Remittance Day, the Bangladesh Consulate General in New York, USA organized a discussion programme titled 'Remittance and Development'.
Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Md Sahidul Islam was present on the occasion as the Chief Guest, said a press release.
Highlighting the unprecedented development of Bangladesh's socio-economic sector under the wise and far-sighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Ambassador Md. Sahidul Islam said, "The inauguration of Padma Bridge on June 25 would give a new impetus to Bangladesh's economy."
Describing the expatriate friendly policies and measures of the Bangladesh government, he requested the expatriates to send more remittances to the country legally.
He described the people-to-people relationship as an important regulator of Bangladesh-US bilateral relations.
Sahidul appreciated the role of expatriate Bangladeshis in deepening and strengthening the cooperation between the two countries.
Consul General Mohammad Monirul Islam spoke while Debashree Mitra, President and CEO of Sonali Exchange in New York, presented the keynote paper.
