Although the authorities of Dhaka University have taken the decision to resume academic activities from today (Sunday), after nearly four months, a group of students fear returning to classrooms due to insecurity on the campus.
During the anti-quota movement, Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of Awami League, had been involved in clashes with students since July 15. As a result, the general students of Dhaka University drove them out of the campus and forced the university administration to ban student politics. Later, the authorities concerned, especially provosts of allresidential halls, were forced to ban politics on the university campus.
After the fall of Sheikh Hasina government, those who were involved in politics of Chhatra League are yet to return to the campus. Besides, the students who have come here have been bullied by other students.
While talking with this correspondent, the activists of Chhatra League shared their disappointment.
“It's true that I was involved in politics of Chhatra League. But I did anything wrong with anybody. Nonetheless, I feel insecure on my campus. If someone attacks me who will protect us? I didn’t see any visible steps taken by the DU authority to protect the students.”
On Wednesday, an activist of Chhatra League came to his hall where he came under attack.
A student named Aftab voiced concern over insecurity. He said, “For the first time, I am returning to the campus amid insecurity and uncertainty.”
While talking about security arrangements, Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said, “We are very concerned about this issue. We have centrally ordered the heads of departments to sit with the students and resolve the matter.”
