Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam on Saturday inaugurated a traffic box and citizen service center in city’s Shantinagor crossing.

The DMP boss inaugurated the beautiful and artistic traffic box under the Mothijeel Traffic Division of the DMP at around 10:30 in the morning.

While addressing the programme he said, “Traffic police is the first respondent of any incidents or crimes.”

They take necessary initiatives for providing first aids and send injured persons to hospitals. But traffic police have no place to take shelter in any natural disasters like storm and heavy raining, he added.

“They even have no wash room to attend the call of nature, and as a result they become victim of various disease including kidney failure. Considering the situation, traffic box and citizen service centres can be built at all the unused places under the flyovers after consulting with the city corporations,” he opined.

According to the DMP officials, first aid box, firefighting equipment, stretcher and drinking water will be available in all the traffic boxes under Mothijeel Traffic Division.

Citizens who are injured in the streets or any persons who fall sick on the city roads will get service from the traffic boxes. Twenty traffic boxes under the Mothijeel Traffic Division will provide humanitarian assistances to the people along with their routine duty of maintaining traffic of the capital.  Citizen Service Centers will be set up in each and every traffic boxes soon.
