After getting a message through Facebook, Media and Public Relations Wing of the Police Headquarters, on Friday rescued a teen girl from Rajbari district, who was allegedly abducted from Mymensingh district on Wednesday.

Talking to the Bangladesh Post on Saturday, Assistant Inspector General Mir Sohel Rana confirmed it. He said, “A teen girl was abducted from Muktagachha Police Station area of Mymensingh district on the evening of Eid. Some miscreants were demanding ransom from the victim’s family. They also threatened to sell her to a red-light area at Daulatdia Ghat if the demand of ransom is not fulfilled.

A conscious citizen informed the Media and Public Relations Wing by sending a message using the official Facebook page of Bangladesh Police, AIG Mir Sohel Rana said.

Immediately after receiving the message, we instructed the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Muktagachha Police Station Mohammad Dulal Akand to take necessary steps to rescue the abducted girl as soon as possible, he further said.

With the help of technology, police traced the current location of the girl in an area under Pangsha Police Station of Rajbari district. Later, we directed OC of Pangsha Police Station Mohammad Masudur Rahman to coordinate with the OC Muktagachha to rescue the abducted girl, the AIG said.

OC Pangsha assigned SI Masudur Rahman and SI Mohammad Kamal Hossain to rescue the teenager. Due to the relentless efforts of multiple teams of police, including cyber and DB teams of the districts concerned, the teenage girl was rescued on Friday from Piralipara village of Sarisha union of Pangsha police station in Rajbari district. Police also arrested the kidnaper, Durjoy.

Local UP chairman Ajmal Al Bahar also assisted in rescuing the girl. Rajbari District Superintendent of Police MM Shakiluzzaman and Mymensingh District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ahmar Uzzaman supervised the whole operations including the rescue operation.

During primary interrogation, police came to know that the victim had an affair with Durjoy. At one stage, the girl eloped with Durjoy without informing anyone at home. At first, Durjoy took the girl to his own house. Later, he brought the girl at his grandfather's house.  But, a close associate of Durjoy had collected the mobile number of the girl's family and demanded ransom taking the advantage of the weakness of Durjoy and the girl's family.

AIG Sohel Rana said, “Police will investigate and the culprits will be brought under the law very soon.”

“Legal proceedings are ongoing in this case,” he added.
