At the recent Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Asia Conference, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud urged Bangladesh Betar to play a vital role in establishing social and human values among the country’s people.

He stated that radio stations can play a vital role in protecting our values and prevent society from destruction. Dr Hasan also said the present government is working to build a poverty and corruption-free digital Bangladesh while Bangladesh Betar is playing a vital role in this regard.

The current state of the country indicates that there is a huge lack of moral values among the people of the country. Every day we hear traumatic news of inhumane acts carried out by people in the nation. More and more people are deviating from societal norms and values of humanity and instead partaking in brutal killings, rape and torture of their fellow humans.

Using radio stations as a platform

 we can promote important social

and moral values among the people

In order to stop these horrific acts from happening, we must raise awareness among people and teach basic moral values. Here is where the power of reaffirmation and subliminal messages would come in. People are constantly being bombarded by thousands of different messages from different forms of mass media. However, using radio stations as a platform we can promote important social and moral values among the people.

This will undoubtedly have a tremendous impact on the morality of the people. We must make sure that no member of society is demeaned or dehumanized. We must raise awareness on the importance of respecting minorities and marginalized people. We must highlight the importance of speaking out against injustice and corruption. Radio programmes can also become a platform for people to raise their voice against repression.

Through different awareness programmes on the radio we must spread the message of harmony and peace. We must emphasize the importance of respecting and valuing our fellow humans. Only then can we progress as a society.
