Influx on, Dhaka gets busy again

People with different professions thronged the capital city through several routes including the Shimulia-Kathalbari Ferry Ghat of Munshiganj is not stopping despite the announcement of the general holiday to curb the spread of Covid- 19.

Even on Monday, thousands of people were seen returning to their workplaces in Dhaka and its adjacent areas.
On the other hand, a massive gathering was seen at Gabtoli, one of the entry point to Dhaka. People hardly followed the health instructions while they were coming to Dhaka from several norther districts, sources said.

Based on correspondent news, ignoring the fear of coronavirus infection, passengers were crossing the Padma River in ferries to join at their workplaces.

Since Monday morning, people from different parts arrived at Kathalbari and through the ferry, they are arriving on Shimulia to reach the capital city.

With all communication systems shut, the workers board goods-laden trucks, vans, and light vehicles and are even walking in large numbers to reach their destinations.

Mawa Ferry Ghat Naval Police acting inspector Shirajul Kabir told media that, “Hundreds of people are coming every day. All are Dhaka-bound passengers. Hundreds of people of various classes and professions have been flocking to Dhaka and surrounding districts for the past few days after the announcement of the opening of the market following the announcement of the opening of Garments”.

However, observing the huge presence of passengers, launch owners of the Shimulia-Kathalbari waterway have demanded to allow them to ferry passengers through their vessels.
