Inflation decreased continuously to 9.69 percent in July over the previous month amounting to 9.74 percent thanks to the steady prices of non-food items.
This was the second consecutive month the consumer prices witnessed decline since May when inflation rose to 9.94 percent, an 11-year high, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
Food inflation rose to 9.76 percent in July from 9.73 percent in the previous month.
Non-food inflation eased to 9.47 percent last month from 9.6 percent in June.
However, inflation also eased slightly in June to stand at 9.74 percent. In May, inflation was 9.94 percent. And last April inflation was 9.24 percent.
July inflation rate of 9.69 percent means that a person who used to buy goods and services for 100 taka in June 2022, has spent Tk 109.69 to buy the same product in July this year. That is why, the cost has increased by Tk 9.69 in the space of one year. Inflation is like a tax that burdens everyone, rich and poor.
