The inflation rate in July declined by 0.28 percent to stand at 5.36 percent from 5.64 percent in June.
Planning Minister MA Mannan came up with the statement at a press conference after the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday.
He said the inflation rate was 5.53 percent in July of the previous year and 5.64 percent on a point-to-point basis last June.
“This means that for the product or service that was supposed to cost Tk100 in July 2020, you had to spend Tk105.36 for that product or service in July this year,” he mentioned.
The Planning Minister was speaking to reporters at a press conference, citing the latest report prepared by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
He said inflation in the food sub-sector rose to 5.08 percent in May from 5.70 percent in July last year.
However, non-food sub-sector inflation has risen slightly to 5.80 percent in July from 5.28 percent in July last year.
He said the inflation rate has mainly reduced at the decline in inflation to a slight drop in food prices.
According to the BBS report, many essential products including the prices of eggs, broiler chickens, vegetables such as eggplant, pumpkin, sweet pumpkin, raw papaya, potato, cucumber, carrot, lemon, and so on came down in July.
