Infection rate 55pc: Lockdown extended in Satkhira

District administration of Satkhira has increased the lockdown due to the spiking up of Covid-19 infection rate in the district. Satkhira Corona Prevention Committee said that the new lockdown will be imposed till June 17. The previous lockdown imposed by Satkhira district administration is to be ended at Friday night.

Grocery shops will be opened from 8am till 11am in the newly proposed lockdown. Previously the time was scheduled from 8am to 12am. 

All shops except medicine stores have been urged to be closed down during lockdown period. 

48 people were tested positive I the district on Thursday. 95 samples have been tested in the PCR lab of Satkhira Medical College Hospital on that day. The infection rate came out as 50.53%. The infection rate on Monday was 55.08& and the rate of infection was 59.34% on Tuesday.

A total of 501 Covid-19 patients were being admitted in the hospitals of the district on Tuesday. The number has been increased to 540 on Thursday.

2,145 patients in the district have been diagnosed with Covid-19 till Thursday. 49 Covid-19 patients died in the district while 240 people died from Covid-19 symptoms. 

Barricades and check posts have been installed at major entry points of the town. Police personnel are discouraging people from wandering around without valid emergency reasons.  Though most of the town people have to walk due to lack of transportation, all emergency services are available and on high alert in the town. 

Communication routes to Khulna and Jashore have been blocked to prevent increase of infection in the town. As Covid-19 symptoms are rapidly increasing, authorities in Satkhira are facing obstacles to contain the spread of infection. 

Import-export in Bhomra Land Port is ongoing with maintaining hygiene regulation. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police have increased patrolling around border areas to prevent illegal intrusions.  

Mobile courts in the meantime conducted several drives around the town and fined multiple shops for ignoring lockdown regulation.

Satkhira Deputy Commissioner SM Mostafa Kamal urged the people of Satkhira to follow the lockdown regulation properly in order to prevent the rise of infection rate.
