Industries Secretary Zakia Sultana underscored the need for combined efforts of all concerned to bring back the success of sugar mills.
"The sugar mills have a long history in this region...integrated efforts from all the quarters are needed to bring back success of these mills amid facing various adverse situation," said the Industries secretary while exchanging views with sugar mills employees and farmers during her visit at different sugar mills in Panchagarh and Thakurgaon on Sunday.
Zakia also stressed the need for required post-transplant nurturing for increasing the yield of sugarcane plants.
Even timely application of fertilizer, irrigation, ensuring hundred per cent germination and enforcing monitoring is necessary for the sugarcane plantation fields, the secretary said advising the farmers during the view-exchange meeting.Officials of the ministry concerned and sugar mills, including Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) Chairman M Arifur Rahman Apu and National Growing Manager of British-American Tobacco Bangladesh Belayet Al Ahsan, among others, attended the meeting.
Zakia Sultana also asked all relevant officials to enhance the skills of farmers through proper training so that the production of the agri produce increases per acre of land.
She also advised the officials concerned not to leave a single inch of arable land in line with the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
