Industries not to be set up here and there: BIDA

The National Steering Committee on Ease of Doing Business today held discussions to take decision on not to let industries to be set up here and there, rather separate zones would be allocated for separate industries, BSS reports.

This was discussed at a virtual National Steering Committee meeting on Ease of Doing Business organized by Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA).

Chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Local Government Minister Md Tajul Islam, PM’s Adviser on Private Industry and Investment Salman F Rahman, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid and BIDA Executive Chairman M Sirajul Islam joined the meeting, among others, said a Finance Ministry press release.

Speaking on the occasion, the Finance Minister said Bangladesh grabbed the 168th slot from 176th position in the Ease of Doing Business due to the sincere efforts from all while BIDA along with other concerned stakeholders have been conducting concerted efforts to lift the country’s Ease of Doing Business Index into double digit by 2021.

“We’ll have to move forward through implementing the decisions as given by the Prime Minister,” he said, adding that by ensuring this both time and cost will be saved by the businesses.

Terming the mapping done by BIDA on Ease of Doing Business as a very beautiful Planning, Kamal said through it a linear responsibility organization chart will be prepared.

“This means that we’ll have to ensure that who will work in which tier, who will accomplish the task and who will give the final certification. We’ll have to ensure proper implementation of our work in each tier and thus accomplishing the task through giving timeline,” he added.

In this regard, the Finance Minister said BIDA would continue its work in coordination with different Ministries, Divisions and Agencies.

The meeting had discussion on how to get higher marks in the 10 indexes of the Ease of Doing Business.
