A public awareness drill on disability-inclusive disaster risk management was held in Shoronkhola, Bagerhat, organized by the development organization CDDI.
The event took place on Wednesday at the field of Janta Secondary School, with guests from Indonesia including ASB Regional Finance Officer Bibit, WASH Advisor Anan, Communication and Knowledge Management Coordinator Dinar, and Regional Poverty Coordinator Wiwit. Local dignitaries, including Shoronkhola Upazila Jammat Secretary Md. Mostafa Amin and officials from the Shoronkhola Fire Station, also attended.
The Indonesian guests praised the organizers, saying, “Your performance was excellent. Your awareness efforts will now reach a level where future cyclones will pose less threat to human lives. We have supported the improvement of local livelihoods and will continue our cooperation in the future.”
Project coordinator Subir Kumar Saha highlighted Bangladesh’s vulnerability to disasters, emphasizing the increasing risk due to climate change. He noted that including people with disabilities in disaster planning is both unique and essential, ensuring that future preparedness initiatives involve marginalized communities equally.
The drill was led by CPB Shoronkhola Upazila Sadar Rainda Union Deputy Team Leader Social Worker Ahiduzzaman Dalim. Around 70 men and women actively participated, and thousands of locals gathered to watch the drill.
