Despite having no hands, Siam overcame numerous obstacles and passed this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination by writing with his leg.
The boy of indomitable will scored GPA-3.83 in the examination from a school in Sarishabari Upazila of Jamalpur district despite his physical disability and poverty. Siam, son of day labourer Jinnah Miah of Udnapara village under Doyail Union, wanted to continue his study and lift his family out of poverty.
Despite obstacles like disability and poverty, Siam has an interest in education and sports from his childhood.
Even without telling his family, the boy went to school with other children during his childhood due to his intense interest in education.
He became familiar with formal education when a teacher, Zakia Sultana, showed him to write letters with his leg after seeing his interest in education. He gradually acquired the skills to write with his leg.
He completed primary
education completion examination from Udnapara BRAC Shishi Niketon School in 2018 and secured good result.
Then, he took admission to Chaparkona Mohesh Chandra School and College. He passed the SSC examination this year under humanities group from the institution.
Although he has no hands, he can play cricket, swim in the pond, press tube well and eat food with his leg using spoon.
Father Jinnah Miah and mother Josna Begum said they took Siam to school due to his great interest in education.
Their son’s dream is to continue education and he is doing it despite many obstables. Even they could not give necessary things to Siam due to their family’s poverty, the parents said, adding that they do not know where their son can take admission now.
Siam said Zakia Sultana madam made a big contribution to his education by inspiring him to write with his leg. Besides, the friends of his schools helped him in various ways, he said.
Siam’s teacher and Chaparkona Mohesh Chandra School and College Principal Rafiqul Islam said the school authorities did not charge any tuition fee from him due to his intense interest in education.
