The massacre of the Father of the Nation and President of Bangladesh at his home located at road no 32, Dhanmondi, Dhaka on August 15, 1975 was inhumanly and brutally done by misguided army men who were motivated by Pakistani local agents who could not believe the emergence of Bangladesh in the world map.

Bangabandhu and his family members’ killings made it clear that anti-liberation forces could not accept the Independence of Bangladesh as they believed in Pakistani ideology.

After killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, some foreign countries gave recognition to Bangladesh. I must raise the question, that why after the killing of Bangabandhu did they give recognition to Bangladesh? Therefore we are to understand that Bangabandhu was killed under the guidance and motivation of those countries.

Those countries could not believe the independence of Bangladesh which was achieved at the cost of 30 million people and three lakh women and girls who were violated by the Pakistani occupation forces.

Indira Gandhi proved once again her human

quality and her dynamic leadership with

strong personality in political arena

After the killing of Bangabandhu and almost his entire family, there was no leader to protest such gruesome incident, though Bangabandhu had thousands of workers and followers. The then leadership miserably failed to launch a movement against the carnage that was conducted on August 15.

We the followers and workers of Bangabandhu also miserably failed to raise our voices to protest the killing of Bangabandhu for not getting any directives from the then leadership as in absence of Bangabandhu, no leader was found to lead or initiate the protest.

But what did happen to the elder daughter of Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina and younger daughter Sheikh Rehana after the heinous massacre of Bangabadhu and his family members? As we all know, they could escape the massacre by the grace of Almighty Allah because they were at that time in West Germany to visit Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr Wazed Ali Miah, a nuclear scientist. At that time Humayun Rashid Chowdhury was the Bangladeshi Ambassador to Germany.

Upon hearing the news of brutal killings of Bangabandhu and his family members, they rushed to the Ambassador’s house to get further information. After hearing the details they had broken down and profusely crying and stunned.

They became surprised as there was none to build a resistance and protest despite thousands of followers who believed in the ideology of Bangabandhu. Ambassador Humayun Rashid and wife Mrs Humayun consoled them.

But there was a huge confusion as to who would protect and save them from the killers of Bangabandhu? In that situation, nobody came forward to protect them, though it was very necessary to protect and save their lives.

But Indira Gandhi, the prime minister of India, extended her motherly affection and support to protect and save their lives. At that time, Gandhi played a very critical role as a real guardian and gave them safe passage to live in New Delhi, India. Not only that, Mrs Gandhi gave them courage and told them not to lose their morale.

After arriving in India, Sheikh Hasina was really impressed by Indira Gandhi’s motherly affection as she gave them all kinds of help and support so that they could live with a feeling of ease during their stay.

The house where they lived was guarded by security forces so that no miscreants could harm them in any way. Mrs Gandhi specially took care of them as an angel guardian so that they could earn their livelihood in a modest and nice manner.

Even Sheikh Hasina’s husband nuclear scientist Dr Wazed Ali Miah was provided Indian scholarship and posted in New Delhi so that he could continue his research work during his stay in India.

Indira Gandhi proved once again her human quality and her dynamic leadership.

Mrs Gandhi also showed the world the magnanimity of human quality and her charismatic leadership by giving them honorable shelter in India amid adverse situation of Bangladesh.

Mrs Gandhi’s farsightedness once again proved her motherly affection extended to the Sheikh Hasina and her family is equal to the manifestation of human quality. Mrs Gandhi honoured Sheikh Hasina’s family giving due rights to live in India during their distressed time after losing their parents, brothers and near ones.

As long as secular people and freedom fighters are alive, Mrs Gandhi will be membered with respect.

Sheikh Hasina returned to her motherland On May 17 in 1981 when she was elected as the president of Bangladesh Awami League in absence of founding president of the Awami League.

Awami League led by Bangababandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman launched different movements against the autocratic rulers of Pakistan. At one stage of the movements, Bangabandhu declared the Independence of Bangladesh on the early hours of the 26th March, 1971.

After nine months of bloody war, Bangladesh was liberated on December 16, 1971. Indira Gandhi extended her full cooperation with her farsighted political vision during our Liberation War and became a popular leader in the South Asian politics.

Sheikh Hasina lived in India for around five years from August, 1975 to May 16, 1981. After 21 years of struggle and upheaval, Sheikh Hasina is now leading the country as the most successful prime minister of Bangladesh for the fourth term. Joy Bangla, joy Bangabandhu.
