The Indian Assistant High Commission in Chattogram has announced the indefinite suspension of visa operations, citing security concerns.
A notification published on Saturday on the website of the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) stated that, due to a recent security incident at the Assistant High Commission in Chattogram, visa services at IVAC Chattogram will remain suspended from Sunday (21 December) until further notice.
The notice added that an announcement regarding the reopening of the visa centre will be made after a review of the security situation.
Earlier, on the night of 18 December, agitators moved towards the Indian Assistant High Commission following reports of the death of Inqilab Manch convener Sharif Osman Bin Hadi. Law enforcement agencies later intervened, taking strict measures to control the situation.
Since then, additional police and army personnel have been deployed to ensure the security of the Assistant High Commission premises.
