Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi on Monday called on Bangladesh Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan at the Navy Headquarters in the city’s Banani area.
On arrival at Naval Headquarters, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) Rear Admiral M Anwar Hossain welcomed the Indian Navy Chief.
Then a Naval Contingent of Bangladesh Navy gave him a guard of honour, said an ISPR press release.
During the call on, Admiral M Nazmul Hassan exchanged greetings with Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and thanked him for his visit to Bangladesh.
The release added that the chiefs of both countries stressed strengthening multilateral cooperation to develop mutually friendly relations and tackle the challenges of sea safety. They also discussed different issues of bilateral interest.
Indian navy chief was briefed on the operational activities of the Bangladesh Navy.
The Bangladeshi Defence attaché stationed in India and the Indian Defence attaché stationed in Bangladesh were also present at the meeting.
Earlier, the Indian Navy Chief placed floral wreaths at Shikha Anirban (the eternal flame) and paid tributes to the martyrs of the country’s war of independence in 1971.
Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi also made a courtesy visit to Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman at the Army Headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment.
During the meeting, the army chief exchanged pleasantries with Indian navy chief, said an ISPR release.
Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi congratulated General Waker-Uz-Zaman for taking charge as chief of the Bangladesh Army.
They expressed their firm hope that mutual cooperation would continue to strengthen the good relations between the two forces of the two countries.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman thanked the Indian Navy chief for paying a courtesy call on him.
Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi also called on Bangladesh Air Force Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan at the BAF Headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment.
They exchanged greetings and discussed issues of bilateral interest.
The Indian Navy chief and his spouse and delegation arrived in Bangladesh on Sunday on an official visit.
The Indian Navy chief’s visit is expected to enhance cooperation and strengthen the two countries' existing friendly relationship.
After the visit, the delegation will return to India on July 5.
Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi began a five-day visit to Bangladesh with an aim to further consolidate the bilateral defence engagement and explore new avenues of cooperation in the maritime domain.
The trip comes more than a week after Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited India, during which both sides vowed to expand their overall defence and strategic ties.
It is Admiral Tripathi’s first official visit abroad since taking over the Navy two months ago.
Admiral Tripathi will also review the passing-out parade at the Bangladesh Naval Academy (BNA) in Chittagong on July 4.
