The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized a large consignment of Indian medicines, valued at Tk 1.2 crore, smuggled into the country through Shyamnagar in Satkhira, evading customs duties.
The information was confirmed on Saturday morning by Lieutenant Commander Muntasir Ibne Mohsin, Media Officer of the Coast Guard (West Zone).
He said that acting on a tip-off about an organised group attempting to smuggle a huge quantity of medicines from India, a raid was carried out by Coast Guard Station Koikhali on Friday afternoon in the Mirgang area under Shyamnagar Police Station. During the operation, a large cache of Indian medicines, worth Tk 1.2 crore, was recovered in an abandoned condition after being smuggled into Bangladesh without paying customs duties.
He further stated that legal proceedings regarding the seized medicines are currently underway.
