A joint task force has seized a large quantity of Indian goods from the Karnaphuli Express train, which was travelling from Chattogram to Dhaka.
The seizure took place on Thursday evening while the train was stationed at Akhaura Railway Station in Brahmanbaria.
The items were recovered from a luggage van and include 270 kilograms of Basmati rice, 102 kilograms of raisins, and 337 kilograms of fuchka (a popular street snack). The total estimated value of the seized goods is approximately Tk 550,000.
According to SM Shafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Akhaura Railway Police Station, the operation was jointly conducted by members of the Bangladesh Army from the Akhaura Camp and railway police around 7:15 PM on Thursday.
No individual has claimed ownership of the goods so far. Legal action will be taken in accordance with existing laws, the OC confirmed. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
