Indian envoy visits Benapole

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami visited Benapole land port on Thursday. 

He visited the Benapole customs house, various sheds at the port, check post immigration and the Benapole-Petrapole no-man’s land area to see firsthand the advantages and disadvantages of import-export trade activities and passport passenger travel with India through the Benapole land port.  Upon his arrival, the Indian High Commissioner was greeted by port and customs officials and trade body leaders. Benapole Customs Commissioner Azizur Rahman, Acting Director of the Port Abdul Jalil,Sharsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Pulok Kumar Mandol, Assistant Police Super Imran Jwel, Deputy Director Mamun Kabir Tarafdar,Benapole Port thana officer in charge Mamun Khan, Benapole Port Immigration OC Ahsan Kabir, Benapole C&F association chairman Mofizur Rahman Sajan, India-Bangladesh Landport Import-Export Committee chairman Motier Rahman, among others, were present.

Traders think his visit will help expand import-export between Bangladesh and India.

Doraiswami visited Bangabandhu Corner at Benapole Custom House and exchanged views with leaders of the trade bodies.

He inquired about passengers travelling from and to India and Bangladesh and bilateral trade through Benapole port.  Later in the evening, Doraiswami exchanged views with business leaders at Hotel Zabir International in Jashore and visited Jashore Ramkrisna Ashram and Mission. 

This is Doraiswami’s first visit to Benapole port as the Indian High Commissioner.

The High Commissioner was accompanied by assistant High Commissioner Raina Rajesh Kumar and assistant High Commissioner of Khulna Amit Kumar.
