India, Russia to boost trade ties with Bangladesh

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma, and Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander V Mantytskiy called on State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu on Thursday.

Pranay Verma and Alexander V Mantytskiy met separately with the State Minister at his office at the Commerce Ministry in the capital.

During the meeting with the Indian High Commissioner, the State Minister for Commerce said that the Bangladesh government will provide a list of essential products to the Indian government, especially onion, sugar, ginger-garlic, etc. so that they can be imported in an emergency. 

Emphasizing on signing an MoU to ensure this, he said, India is a true friend of Bangladesh. 

The state minister said that the border haats should be made more active to increase communication between the people of both countries. 

Meanwhile, a border haat was awaiting inauguration at Moulvibazar, and the Indian High Commissioner agreed to jointly inaugurate it.

The Indian High Commissioner said that there is great potential to expand trade between Bangladesh and India. He emphasised increasing the communication between the businessmen of the two countries and said that there will be a mega show in the country next month where he invited Bangladeshi representatives to participate.

Pranay Verma also suggested organising best of Bangladesh Products in India and best of India Products Show in Bangladesh to increase exports by diversifying the products of both countries.

Later, during a meeting with the Russian ambassador, Ahsanul Islam Titu said that Bangladesh-Russia relations are historic. With the passage of time, this relationship has gained new dimensions. 

He called on the Russian government to strengthen the relations between the two countries, especially trade and economic relations.

Ahsanul Islam Titu called for a quick settlement of the issue of a direct exchange system in the import and export of Bangladesh and Russia.

Meanwhile, the Russian ambassador expressed his interest in setting up a branch of the Russian University in Bangladesh, and the state minister for commerce assured cooperation through appropriate authorities.
