India, Pakistan likely to clash at least twice in Asia Cup

The Asia Cup 2025 is set to begin on September 5, with the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan match scheduled for September 7, according to a report by the Times of India on Wednesday. 

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has finalised a 17-day window for the tournament, with the final likely to take place on September 21.

Six teams will participate in the competition — India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the UAE. 

The tournament will follow a group stage and super fours format, which means India and Pakistan are expected to face each other at least twice. Their second encounter will likely happen on September 14.

While India are the official hosts, the tournament will be held in the UAE. As per the TOI report, the Indian government is close to granting clearance for the event, amid earlier concerns due to ongoing cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.

Meanwhile, The promotional activities for the tournament have already begun and official broadcaster Sony recently shared a poster of the tournament. The recent cross-border tension complicated the situation for a bit but with the sides set to lock horns in UAE, the future of this fixture in global tournaments looks bright. 

It could well act as a catalyst before the Women's ODI World Cup scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka. While Pakistan were going to play all their games, including knockouts if they qualify, in Sri Lanka but there were question marks over the future of India-Pakistan cricket after the recent events. 

Themovement on the Asia Cup means the broadcasters, sponsors and other stakeholders take a sigh of relief before the two multi-nation events scheduled later this year. 

Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are going to be the official hosts for the next three editions, and the tournament will continue to switch formats. 2027 will be ODI, back to T20I in 2029 and return to ODIs for the 2031 edition in Sri Lanka.
