India has offered Covid-19 vaccine to the Bangladesh Army as part of the military-to-military ties.
“We aren’t yet clear whether the offer is accepted, but we'll be very happy to supply it,” Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Vikram Kumar Doraiswami said on Monday, replying to a question at the ‘DCAB Talk’.
The Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) organised the interaction with its President Pantho Rahman and General Secretary AKM Moinuddin in dais.
India’s Serum Institute is producing Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine which is being used in Bangladesh.
Apart from doses under the purchase deal, Bangladesh also received two million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine as a gift from India.
“Bangladesh is a friendly country and if vaccine doses need to be supplied on a military-to- military basis, the Indian army will be happy to supply that,” the High Commissioner said, while highlighting different aspects of the bilateral relations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Dhaka on March 26 to attend the celebration of the 50 years of Bangladesh.
