BGMEA President Faruque Hassan on Saturday said that India has expressed its eagerness to invest in the non-cotton sector of the country’s Readymade Garment Industry (RMG).

The President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) said this while addressing a  press conference at the BGMEA office in Uttara.

“During my visit to India with the prime minister, I called upon the Indian businessmen to invest in our non-cotton sector and in response they expressed their interest to do so,” said Hassan while addressing

Hassan was among the entourage members who were accompanying Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her four-day state visit to India, and held a meeting with the Indian apex business body.

Regarding the tax-free transit facility, the BGMEA president said, “This facility will strengthen the export to India and other countries. And port congestion will be easier than in the past.”

During the meeting, he talked about tax facilities and the trade gap between the two countries and sought India's help to lessen the pressure on the Benapole border and ease the export and import facilities.

“We have put importance on the economic partnership to minimise trade gap between the two countries,” he said in the post-visit press conference.
