Independence Day celebrated in Chattogram

The glorious great Independence Day and National Day of Bengalis are being celebrated in Chattogram with due dignity.

People of all walks of life in Chattogram commemorated the best children of the nation with flowers at the temporary Shaheed Minar built on the grounds of City Corporation Municipal School and College in the city on the morning of Independence Day on Saturday.

 At 6 o'clock in the morning, the formality of the great Independence Day started with the sound of artillery.  City Mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury first paid his respects with flowers at sunrise.  Later, Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Md Ashraf Uddin, Chittagong Range DIG Md. Anwar Hossain, CMP Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir, Chattogram Police Super SM Rashidul Hique, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman and senior officials of various government agencies and leaders of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad paid their respects.

 After that, when the premises of Shaheed Minar was opened to the public, thousands of people flocked.  Chattogram Metropolitan Awami League, Metropolitan BNP, Anti-Corruption Commission, Jeevan Bima Corporation, North District Awami League, South District Awami League, Juba League, Swechch hasebak League, Krishak League, Chhatra League, Chhatra Dal, CPB, Youth Union, Chhatra Union, Jatiya Party, various political, social organizations and people of all levels including students of educational institutions paid their respects with flowers.

 After paying his respects, City Mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has come a long way in fulfilling the dream of independence called by Bangabandhu.  Besides publishing the complete list of freedom fighters, the city mayor also called for expeditious release of the list of Razakar, Al-Badar.

 Meanwhile, the Independence Day parade started at MA Aziz Stadium at 8 am.  Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Md Ashraf Uddin took salute from the chief guest on the occasion of hoisting the national flag and parade.  Members of Ansar-VDP, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides and BNCC from various educational institutions of the city participated in the parade.  Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman and senior police officials were guests on the occasion.

 Besides, Chattogram City Corporation, District administration, various political, social and cultural organizations are holding various programs throughout the day around the great Independence and National Day.
