Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq Wednesday said that the country's independence was achieved in line with the Six-Point Demand declared by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1966.
"Independence can't be imagined without the Six-Point. Bangabandhu had made the entire nation united and inspired through his six-point demand," he said while speaking at a discussion at Bangladesh Open University (BOU) in Gazipur in the morning, said a press release.
BOU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Syed Humayun Akhter presided over the discussion titled 'The Motto of Independence: Six-Point'. BOU Pro-VC (academic) Professor Dr. Mahbuba Nasreen and Treasurer Professor Mostafa Azad Kamal also spoke.
Mozammel said, "We must acknowledge the Six-Point as the motto of our independence without any hesitation. Our one-point latent demand of independence was achieved through this Six-Point".
Bangabandhu never deterred from the six-point even though he knew his death was certain, he said, adding that the six-point is considered as a very important and golden chapter in the history of Bangladesh. BOU Liberation War Affairs Research Centre Professor Dr Md Jahangir Alam delivered welcome address at the discussion attended by over 700 teachers, students, officials and staff of the university. BOU Registrar Dr Md Shafiqul Alam gave the vote of thanks at the discussion.
