Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said, it was not possible to maintain the continuity of income generating projects of CCC in the past.

He made the remarks while visiting Bibirhat Kacha Bazaar, Chawkbazar Fish Market, Lalchand Road and BRTC areas in the port city on Tuesday afternoon.

Mayor Rezaul said, “A huge amount of money is needed to develop Chattogram into an urbanized, beautiful, clean, habitable and aesthetic city. The fact is that we do not have the monetary support needed to do so.  However, the development projects cannot be stopped so it is time to take our own income generating projects without being dependent on the government”.

“In the past, we had a number of income-generating projects to strengthen the City Corporation's revenue and assets, but we were unable to sustain that continuity. During my tenure, I will work to expand CCC’s own sources of income and facilitate the revenue collection process to encourage city dwellers into paying taxes,” he added.

The Mayor also said, “All illegal establishments in the city will be evicted and strict legal actions will be taken against those who are causing sufferings to the people by occupying drains and canals”.

Acting Secretary of CCC and Chief Revenue Officer Nazrul Islam, Personal Secretary to the Mayor Muhammad Abul Hashem, Additional Chief Engineer Rafiqul Islam Manik, Executive Engineer Md Jasim Uddin, Biplob Das and Estate Officer Md Kamrul Islam Chowdhury were present on the occasion.
