Increase in Covid positivity, mortality rate

Bangladesh recorded 1,444 new infections till 8am Sunday, increasing the rate of positivity. The total number of people infected reached 7,98,830, with the new cases. 

The country registered 34 more deaths in the meantime, taking the death toll to 12,583. 

The death rate now stands at 1.58 percent in the country, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday. The current positivity rate stands at 10.11 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 13.47 percent, added the release. 

The number of Covid-19 fatalities has declined while the number of new cases has surged compared to a day earlier. The country recorded 38 deaths and 1,043 infections on Saturday.  

Of the 34 deceased, 23 were men, and 11 were women. 31 of them died in different hospitals across the country while three died at home. 

Among the victims, 12 were from the Chattogram division, eight from Dhaka, six from Khulna, three from Rajshahi and two each from Sylhet and Ranpur divisions.

A total of 14,277 samples were tested across the country till 8am Sunday.

At least 1,397 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period. The total number of recoveries now stands at 7,38,805 and the recovery rate at 92.48 percent.

As of Sunday, 3,549,718 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 170,668,426 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.

85 Covid cases of South African variant, 27 of UK variant, 23 of Indian variant and five of Nigerian variant have been found in Bangladesh so far according to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
