An inception workshop of a project entitled "Scaling up Anticipatory Action for Flood Prone Areas in Bangladesh" was held at the conference room of Sundaganj upazila administration in Gaibandha on Thursday.

SKS Foundation, a non-government organization, which would implement the project at two flood-prone unions of the upazila, arranged the workshop in presence of upazila disaster management committee members.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Al-Maruf presided over the function.

Project Officer Ranjit Kumar Paul said, earlier, such type of project was implemented at different unions of the district in pilot form at the direct supervision of the organisation with the financial support of "Save the Children International".

Later, the project idea had been developed by using the acquired knowledge and learning based on the opinions and suggestions of all the related disaster management committees, seniors, union councils, volunteers, flood victims and flood affected families of the areas, he added.

"The objective of this project is to strengthen the capacity of the relevant disaster management committees and stakeholders in larger scale so that the possible flood damage can be reduced significantly by responding to early flood warnings," he said, adding that the project work started in February this year and would continue till January, 2024.

At last, he sought overall cooperation from all concerned to make the project in the upazila a grand success. After elaborate discussion, many pragmatic recommendations were adopted from

the participants to run the project at Chandipur and Horipur unions of the upazila properly.

The UNO assured the concerned of providing all sorts of administrative support to run the project in the aforesaid unions of the upazila fruitfully.
