Postal Department's mobile financial service Nagad has distributed various allowances and assistance to more than two and a half crore people, seven crore times in over a year.
This information was provided by Tanvir A Mishuk, Managing Director of Nagad, in a webinar organized by Telecom Reporters’ Network, Bangladesh (TRNB) on Saturday.
“This is definitely a big achievement for us. At such an emergency time like Covid-19, allowances could not have been delivered so easily to such a large section without mobile financial services”, said Tanvir A Mishuk.
He further said “Today, after two years, I can at least say that we have come closer to our goal. As Nagad is a government service, other government agencies are also relying on Nagad and easily distributing their allowances, assistance, and grants. At the same time, technologically, we have built ourselves in such a way that Nagad can be compared to any of the best companies in the world in terms of financial transactions on mobile phones”.
TRNB general secretary Samir Kumar Dey said that earlier it used to cost the government Tk 22 per thousand to send money through mobile phones, but now it has been reduced to Tk 7.
Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar, State Minister for Social Welfare Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru and Director General of the Department of Social Services Sheikh Rafiqul Islam were present as discussants at the event.
The program was conducted by TRNB President Rashed Mehedi.
