It is alarming to note that most of the hospitals and medical centers are yet to be ready to treat coronavirus infected patients across the country, including the capital.

Intensive care units (ICUs) and artificial respiratory facilities or ventilation are essential for patients with critical coronavirus patients. But such facilities are not yet available in the five designated hospitals to treat coronavirus patients.

Experts are of the opinion that there is a huge gap between demand and supply in terms of intensive care facilities. ICUs in those five hospitals are not up to the mark for a lack of necessary equipment and skilled manpower.

One of the biggest  obstacles Bangladesh will face in the wake

of the  coronavirus pandemic is a severe shortage of test kits

and the supplies needed to  perform the tests

Considering the situation, the government should take immediate measures to increase intensive care facilities across the country, and set up a specialized hospital with adequate number of ICU beds to treat coronavirus patients. Covid-19 patients should be treated in a designated hospital, and ventilation and other facilities at the ICU should be there.

One of the biggest obstacles Bangladesh will face in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic is a severe shortage of test kits and the supplies needed to perform the tests.

Given that testing is crucial to get the people most at risk the care they need, the lack of testing and an increase in demand over supply is critical in determining how the next several weeks of the pandemic will play out. Adequate and accurate testing is also crucial to help stop the spread of disease since many who have been exposed can display no symptoms.
