Imam held for killing young man in city

Rapid Action Battalion on Tuesday arrested an Imam of a mosque in Dakshinkhan area of the capital city of Dhaka in connection with the brutal killing of a young man.

The deceased, identified as Ajharul, 35, was a garments worker.

Talking to the Bangladesh Post, Lt Col Md Abdul Mottakim, Director of RAB-1 confirmed it.

The arrestee, identified as Maolana Abdur Rahman, Imam of a local mosque, was charged for masterminding the gruesome murder.

On secret information, a team of RAB arrested him from local Madrasa of Dakshinkhan area, he added.

“We also seized sharp weapons which were used to kill the garment worker”, he further said.

He said, during our primary interrogation, the Imam admitted his involvement in the killing.

According to the RAB official, Abdur Rahman killed the victim following a dispute over the extra- marital relation with the wife of the victim.

Earlier, police recovered six parts of the body of the young man from a septic tank of a mosque in Dakshinkhan area of the capital on Tuesday.

He used to live with his family in the area.

Officer-in-Charge (OC-Investigation) of Dakshinkhan Police Station Azizul Haque Mia said that the youth went missing several days ago. Later, in the morning, six pieces of his body were recovered from inside the septic tank.

The OC also said the body will be sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy after the legal procedure.
