The Department of Consumer Rights and RAB conducted a special operation at Salauddin store in Munshibazar of Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar and seized 9168 liters of soybean oil. The operation was conducted on Saturday noon. During the operation, the team found 9168 liters of illegally stored soybean oil bought at the previous price. The Department of Consumer Rights seized it immediately. The Consumer Rights Department fined Salauddin Store one lakh Tk for illegally stocking edible oil. The campaign was led by Al Amin, Assistant Director, National Consumer Rights Department, Moulvibazar. Rapid Action Battalion personnel assisted in this raid.
Al-Amin, the assistant director, said that a few days ago, the owner of the Salauddin store, Salauddin, informed him that his store had 2,500 liters of oil bought earlier. On Thursday, authorities wanted to know how many liters of oil there are. One employee said there were 100 liters of oil. But when they went to the store house, they found that 9168 liters of soybean oil was illegally stored there.
He added that 9168 liters of immediately seized soybean oil had been sold to retailers at earlier prices. Retailers will sell to buyers at an earlier price. However, no more than one bottle of oil can be sold to one buyer. Retailers must submit a list of all buyers to consumer rights. This will ensure transparency.
