According to the local, the Hatsingra canal, which had been under illegal occupation for over a decade, was cleaned. The cleaning initiative began shortly after the newly appointed Singra Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mazharul Islam took charge as the administrator of Singra municipality.

According to sources from Singra Municipality, UNO Mazharul Islam, along with Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Golam Rabbani Sardar, the municipality's Chief Assistant Md Zillur Rahman, and local dignitaries, began the drive by demolishing the illegal establishments along both sides of the canal and carrying out a cleanliness drive. By 12:00 pm, nearly a one-kilometer stretch of the canal was freed from encroachments and pollution.

Municipal Administrator Mazharul Islam said, after recently joining in Singra, I learned that the Hatsingra Canal was occupied, as well as polluted. The canal became a place for mosquito breeding and was emitting a foul smell as well. Therefore, I took immediate action to clean the canal.
