Illegal nets worth about Tk one crore have been seized in raids from three rivers under Muladi and Babuganj upazilas of Barishal.
Mohammad Alam, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer of the Department of Fisheries, confirmed the matter on Wednesday (March 20) night. He said the Directorate of Fisheries, Upazila Administration, Police and RAB-8 members conducted a joint operation in the Arial Khan, Naya Bhangani and Muladi Patar rivers under Barishal's Muladi and Babuganj upazilas.
In the operation, eight pie nets, six mosquito nets, 16 fench nets, including 20,000 meters of current nets (the estimated value of which is about Tk one crore) were seized and burnt.
Muladi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nizam Uddin conducted the mobile court in the drives. At that time, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer of Directorate of Fisheries Mohammad Alam, Babuganj Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer MM Parvez, RAB-8 DAD Azadur Rahman, Muladi Police Station sub-inspector Mithun Mondal were present.
