Authorities conducted a special drive on the Halda River to protect its natural fish breeding grounds, seizing illegal fishing equipment and imposing fines on offenders. During the operation, officials confiscated 1,500 metres of floating nets and 12 fishing hooks, while two individuals were detained and fined Tk 1,000 each.

The drive took place on Thursday morning, covering the stretch of the river from Chattarghat to the estuary. The seized nets and hooks were destroyed by burning to prevent further illegal use.

The operation was led by Raozan Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jisan Bin Majed, with assistance from Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md Tofazzal Hossain Fahim and ASI Ramzan Ali of the River Police.

Speaking about the drive, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Tofazzal Hossain Fahim said that the administration remains fully committed to protecting the biodiversity of the Halda River and preserving its status as a natural fish breeding habitat. He added that regular monitoring and drives would continue to prevent illegal fishing activities in the river, which is known as the only natural carp breeding ground in Bangladesh.
