‘If AL does not come back to power, dev will stop’

State Minister for Water Resources Colonel (Retd) Zahid Faruk Shamim, MP, Thursday said all the ongoing development works will be stopped if Awami League does not come back to power.

Therefore, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should be brought back to power to run the state again in the future, he said in reply to a question from journalists after inaugurating a project titled 'Coastal dam rehabilitation, development of drainage system and protection of banks in Tajumuddin and Lalmohan upazilas' at Sonapur union of Tajumuddin upazila this afternoon.

He said that these dams are being built for the common people to protect the river banks. "If these works are stopped, then common people will suffer. Common people should understand which government works in the country. Therefore, Awami League should be brought to power in the next national elections to complete the ongoing work," he added.

The state minister said, "If this new project to protect the river bank is implemented, we can save the entire river bank of Lalmohan-Tajumuddin area with embankment and bank protection."

If Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government comes to power Again in future, more such projects will be taken up in the whole Bangladesh to protect the poor people from river erosion, he added.

He also said that when Sheikh Hasina came to power in 1996, all the community clinics were opened across the country, but in 2001, BNP came to power and closed the community clinics.

Member of Parliament Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon, Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Asaduzzaman and Upazila Parishad Chairman Mosharef Hossain Dulal, among others, were present.

Later, State Minister Tajumuddin addressed a public meeting as the chief guest.
